First day of work... Pointless entry, pointless day

Got called to work today (one day earlier) due to their lack of manpower.

Work scope for the day: Place forms in envelopes. 60 English language ones and 10 each for the other languages.

Question of the day: Is honesty the best policy?

I think I did something really silly today. I had to count fast when counting out the 60 forms but there's a tendency to count out extras cos the irritating paper keeps sticking to each other. Paper pals... So sometimes I will get 61 or more. The silly thing is I went to ask one colleague if its okay to do so. Like duh no... Of course the diplomatic answer she gave will be "Refrain from doing that, at most we will use the extras.". And to make stupidity into idiocy, I asked her what if the extras are insufficient to cover up. She still said that there will be enough. Okay point taken. Period.

Before I asked her, I already knew that I have the option of feigning ignorance. Extras so be it. Let them print more... But the reason why I asked is that I do not want shortages in the forms when we are packing the last few; And also a shortage in my pay. Who knows if they will dock my pay for the reprints?

Nonetheless I think its my inexperience (xenophobia probably..) that precipitated this folly. My fetish for perfection in my work contributed to this silly query too. I really thought I should have shut up and pretend that I did no wrong. With this awful first day, I can just count my days, and my forms, as time goes by. Today was a meaningless, mechanical day. When will something more meaningful come? I want to teach..
