Reflection of the closed doors

With reference to my previous post, I also learnt that social pressure precipitates individual regrets.

As I mentioned before, meritocracy has a dark shadow called elitism lingering behind it. Meritocracy is supposed to be fair but it is fairer to those who are academically inclined. (at least this is the case I see here) Eventually we are back to square one; a disparity still exists.

Does it mean that a person who cannot score A's in exams but is extremely socioble and adept in aesthetics will earn less recognition and money than a snobbish scholar who worships elitism?? The answer is for us to speculate.

I feel stifled.. Our aim is to score as many distinctions as possible. What about our undermined aesthetics? Our marginalised artists and culture... There is progress no doubt, in assimilating these secondary assets into our world of distinctions and scholarships. However I do not see a holistic progress. Much is lost and being lost. Humanities have taken a step back to give way to globalisation and its good friend meritocracy. I see people brimming with the potential in aesthetics not allowed to display their flair. Instead, they have to settle for a more "practical" subject to mug on. So much for the meaning of life.....

Regret is inevitable. This is due to the compulsion of conjuring A's on the result slip. There is no impetus to further their potential. Eventually their sense of direction went awry and we see a confused soul on the street, uttering the phrase "I should have..."

Who closed the doors? Did we do it with our own hands? Or were they shut and double-locked with chains in the first place?

  • I really felt much after reading your last two posts. I'm trying not to think too much about closed doors anymore. Instead, I'm going to rebuild my own door. And I'm not just gonna use hammer and nails. I'm going to use my imagination.

    Too late to regret.

    It's time to rejuvenate. :)
