Wee Shu Min's blog comments
Felt bored today and Wee Shu Min's name popped into my mind after reading some news. Thus I decided to Google search for the exact comments she made about Derek Wee. For all readers, it is advisable that u do it too cos I think it is an insight into a portion (probably some of our peers') of certain Singaporeans' mindsets.
Derek Wee wrote his comment regarding the woes of ageing Singaporeans with much logic and reasonably fluent language. The gist of his blog comment is that ageing Singaporeans, late 40s and above, are discriminated and denied of employment after they are retrenched. His entry can qualify its way into ST forum. Somehow I wonder how Wee Shu Min can insult his writing and vilify it with such coarse language, till the extent of personal insult to the writer and others sharing his sentiments. Truth be told, WSM wrote terribly compared to DW and yet she dares criticise his writing. Is vituperation necessary, WSM? I believe that if a person wants to criticise another on something, it will be almost a must that the critic is absent of that flaw first. Otherwise, the three words "practise what you preach" will come in handy as a rebuttal. Furthermore vituperation is no problem-solver in an exchange of ideas. Amazes me how such blatantly uncouth language can come from the mouth of a supposed future elite.
It is truly poignant that meritocracy brings with it elitism. No practice in this world is truly utopic and unflawed. Elitism is just a shadow that lingers behind meritocracy, darkening the goodness of this paradigm.
For the critics out there, for the age discriminators out there, for the elites who have a face of elitism in you, its time for reflection. What will our country become if such social barriers prevail at the back of people's minds?
