A mirror showing closed doors...
Had a chat with certain people and I found out that so many people out there actually regret their past deeply; Either their academic past or as a person with unfulfilled ideals. The doors to their ideals are closed. I know everybody has regrets but I really did not expect it to come so hard on them.
As usual I listened and provided my two cents worth of advice. Half the time, the suggestions I quoted are already thought of by themselves. Solutions like "Do not look back, carve a new future".... yadayada... Initially I did not feel very useful with my advice. However I learnt that its such times that people need to be reminded again, consistently ie. There IS a new future we can carve. The past is only a history textbook.
True, certain doors are closed to us due to past mistakes. Lowering of expectations will dispel the anxiety and worry that those doors may never open again. If that cannot be done, then we have to use our hammers and nails, our drive and self-motivation, to build new doors.
